J.A. (Joseph Alfred) Nettleton (1851-1939) began his career in the Laboratory of Inland Revenue, Somerset House and later became a Fellow at the Institute of Brewing. Publishing several books and papers on brewing and distilling, his first major work was 1893’s “The Manufacture of Spirit…” He spent the next few years studying condensing and cooling principles as applied in differing types of distillation processes. Published in 1897 and intended as a supplement to the 1893 book, “Condensing and Cooling in Pot-Still and Patent-Still Distillation” is the culmination of his research. Portions of this book were later included in 1913’s “The Manufacture of Whisky and Plain Spirit.”For the first time since the original release, you have the opportunity to read the complete work as Nettleton first published. This edition features a new introduction discussing the book’s relation to the “…Manufacture…” books, a summary of what was carried into the 1913 title and new biographical information as well as a comprehensive Nettleton bibliography.

GB2494539A - Pot still distillation - Google Patents ~ A method of recovering alcohol from residues in a recovery still is outlined. A method of manufacturing pot still distilled alcoholic product, preferably whisky, comprising: (a) providing at least one pot still for pot still distillation; (b) providing a charge for the pot still provided in step (a); (c) distilling the charge in the pot still and collecting distilled product; (d) finishing the .
Building a World Class Home Distillation Apparatus ~ book sellers, discussion groups, and lots of chemistry information on the web, but only a couple of quality publications on amateur distillation and still construction. There are some good ones though. I
Pot Still Distillation: How A Pot Still Works / Distiller ~ Pot Still Distillation 101. Pot stills are used to make many of the world’s great spirit styles, such as single malt scotch, cognac, many rums, and most mezcal. Conversely, large industrial column stills make the bulk of the alcohol produced on Earth. But the rudimentarily reliable pot still remains king in some important circles.
Building a Home Distillation Apparatus - Erowid ~ BUILDING A HOME DISTILLATION APPARATUS 4 Ola Norrman’s book takes you step by step through every procedure involved in the process of producing a variety of spirit drinks, including guidance in the construction of an appropriate still. Another good source can be found in Dr. John Stone’s book Making Gin and“ Vodka”.
Kegland Pot Still Quick Disconnect Condenser ~ The KegLand Alcoengine Pot Still has been improved with quick disconnect garden hose fittings, so you no longer need to haul the cooling water hoses around with the still head when assembling or disassembling. This is the condenser to get for a traditional pot still, when you want to taste the flavor of the mash, when distilling traditional .
Distillation / ScienceDirect ~ Distillation processes are major industrial energy consumers, typically requiring significant amounts of heat in the reboiler and rejecting similar amounts of heat from the condenser, but at a lower temperature, limiting the potential for heat recovery.
How to Make a Copper Reflux Still : 11 Steps (with ~ In this step we will cut the pipes connecting the column and condenser, along with the reflux pipes. Start by cutting a 70mm section of 15mm piping. This will connect the condenser and column of the still. Next, cut two 150mm sections of 15mm pipe. These will act as reflux points, and provide water to the condenser. Cut a 70mm section of 28mm pipe.

Distillation - Definition, Detailed Process, Types, Uses ~ Simple distillation involves heating the liquid mixture to the boiling point and immediately condensing the resulting vapors. This method is only effective for mixtures wherein the boiling points of the liquids are considerably different (a minimum difference of 25 o C). The purity of the distillate (the purified liquid) is governed by Raoult .

Pot still DistillationPot still Distillation • The pot is made from Copper • Size differ from place to place • Alcohol vaporize at 78.5 c • The Vapours passes through Condenser and converted to liquid • Liquid alcohol is collected into three parts Head Heart ( 30% .
The Pot Still - Home Distillation - Buffalo Brewing Blog ~ The pot still is also a very simple device, consisting of a boiler, a condenser, and a connecting tube. Many successful pot stills have been made from everyday kitchen pots and pans. Pressure cookers are a common choice because they are sturdy, and can also provide steam for processing botanicals by steam distillation.. A common pressure cooker is more than ample for producing steam for .
Pot still - Wikipedia ~ A pot still is a type of distillation apparatus or still used to distill flavoured liquors such as whisky or cognac, but not rectified spirit because they are bad at separating congeners.Pot stills operate on a batch distillation basis (as opposed to a Coffey or column stills which operate on a continuous basis). Traditionally constructed from copper, pot stills are made in a range of shapes .
What is Patent Still Distillation? / LEAFtv ~ A patent still distillation is a method of producing grain whiskey through a continuous distillation process. It is also called a “Coffey” still, from the name of Aeneas Coffey, who patented the idea in 1831, according to the Scotland: Whisky and Distilleries website.

EXERCISE 1.1 Distillation of a Pure Compound by Simple Distillation Assemble the simple distillation apparatus. Run cooling water through the condenser in at the "bottom" and out at the "top".
Distilling Condenser - Meats and Sausages ~ Distilling Condenser. Condenser is a crucial part of the distilling system. In a simple pot still configuration (alembic) the output of the system is directly proportioned to the efficiency of the condenser. A cool running condenser with a large surface area will immediately cool alcohol vapors and will increase the amount of distillate.
Mash & Boil Pot Still Package - William's Brewing ~ This package features the 7 gallon capacity Mash & Boil, as well as the pure copper KegLand Pot Still Condenser with quick disconnect hose fittings, and Mash & Boil distilling lid. Quick disconnect garden hose style fittings mean you do not have to lug cooling water hoses around every time you assemble or disassemble your distilling unit.
Design and control of dual condensers in distillation ~ The design and operating pressures in the majority of distillation columns are set by the desire to use inexpensive cooling water in the condenser. A minimum reflux-drum temperature of about 322 K is usually used to permit a reasonable temperature differential between the cooling water and the process.

Column still - Wikipedia ~ Description. The first column (called the analyzer) in a column still has steam rising and wash descending through several levels. The second column (called the rectifier) carries the alcohol from the wash, where it circulates until it can condense at the required strength.. A column still is an example of a fractional distillation, in that it yields a narrow fraction of the distillable .
